VdFS supports the following film festivals and events:
The festival of national and international independent film presents carefully selected short, feature-length and documentary films.
Best Austrian Animation Festival
The festival presents a large number of new Austrian animated films in a local competition.
Cinema Talks is an innovative and young film festival that entered its second round in 2020. Up to 30 national and international short films will be presented - packed into four categories: Social, Extraordinary, Entertainment and Inspiration.
Over the five days of the festival, around 60 national and international feature films, documentaries and short films - including numerous Austrian premieres - invite audiences to approach the ever-topical subject of home from different perspectives and to engage intensively with it.
For more than 25 years, the Diagonale - Festival of Austrian Film has seen itself as a forum for the presentation and discussion of Austrian film productions. Filmmakers and their works are the focus of the festival, which takes place annually in Graz.
DIAMETRALE is a platform for (inter)national filmmakers who stand out for their experimental approach and interest in the comic. Following the motto "useless and beautiful", the festival strengthens films that defy common attributions and are resistant thanks to comic, absurd, humorous methods.
The dotdotdot short film festival spreads a relaxed open air atmosphere in summer. Handpicked short and medium-length films are on the program when the Volkskundemuseum Wien turns into the festival center of dotdotdot.
Every year in May, the auditoriums of the Votiv Kino and Kino De France are the center of documentary film art and ethnographic filmmaking. With short and feature-length films and an extensive supporting program with keynotes, master classes, panel discussions and a film talk, ethnocineca.
The Summer Cinema at the MQ invites you to a nice mix of documentaries, feature films, animation, art and short films with free admission, celebrating cinema and digital culture.
With a program centered around socio-political themes as well as humorous works and films about young women's attitudes to life, the FrauenFilmTage provide exciting insights into the multifaceted world of female filmmaking.
Instant36 - Das Stegreif Filmfestival - Drehwochenende & Screening
Instant36 is an open festival for film enthusiasts, where participants take on the challenge of making a short film within 36 hours. Fiction, documentary or animation - all forms are allowed. Three weeks after the competition, the screening takes place at ARGE Kultur Salzburg.
Internationales Kinderfilmfestival Wien & Steiermark
The most beautiful films for families, children and young audiences are gathered by the International Children's Film Festival in Vienna, Linz and Styria.
The Jewish Film Festival Vienna brings Jewish filmmaking to Viennese cinemas and the big screen.
Juvinale is a festival with many faces around young, qualitative film with screenings, workshops, discussions.
The open air film festival takes place every summer since 2019 with free admission at Karlsplatz in Vienna.
Kikeriki - Kurzfilmfestival für Kinder
For four weeks, the Kunstwerkstatt Tulln is transformed into a colorful movie theater for children aged 3 and up.
Consistently analog - in that form of presentation of film that is inseparably linked to the experience of cinema - extraordinary city films from 100 years can be seen at the Augarten and METRO Kinokulturhaus in wonderful 35mm prints made in-house.
The festival K3 understands its eponymous terms "commerce, art, cinema" as an incentive to draw borders in order to cross them at the same time. The core of this cross-border festival is dedicated to the filmmaking of the regions of Carinthia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Slovenia.
Linz International Short Film Festival
The festival was founded in 2018 with the aim of supporting young, talented filmmakers in their qualitative work and giving them the opportunity to present their creations in a professional environment.
Mittelamerikanisches Filmfestival Wien
The Central American Film Festival Vienna sees itself as a cultural bridge from Central America to Europe and strives to make this small, yet creative film scene known.
Mountainfilm International Filmfestival Graz
Mountainfilm Graz is Austria's largest genre film festival in the field of mountains and nature. For the festival audience, this results in a wide range of topics, great stories and footage from the most diverse areas of our planet waiting to be discovered.
Poetry films and literary filmmaking, competitions, readings and performances by local artists as well as surprise guests from abroad are offered by the Poetry Film Festival in Vienna.
Queertactics, the new lesbian_queer_feminist film series in Vienna has the motto "The world should become queerer and more female".

The International Human Rights Film Festival is held annually in Vienna under the banner of human rights. High-quality national and international films that deal with socio-political circumstances, problems and challenges in a wide variety of ways bring the worldwide treatment of human rights to the big screen.
300 feature films, documentaries and short films - this is Austria's largest international film event, which brings international flair to Vienna and invites its visitors on a cinematic journey of discovery through the cinema of the world.
VIS Vienna Shorts - Online Edition
Short and Good! Vienna Shorts is dedicated to the short format. The program includes short and animated films as well as music videos.
The traveling film festival plays numerous venues throughout Vienna during the summer months. The film program of the city's oldest open-air cinema includes a wide selection of current, explosive and successful documentaries, short films, music and feature films.
Austria's largest international youth media festival in Wels invites young filmmakers to exciting film screenings and a colorful supporting program. The core of the festival is the International Film Competition, which annually features around 80 short films by young directors between the ages of 10 and 26.
Social commitment in short film - that's what zeitimpuls shortfilm stands for! The festival offers a varied program for all age groups and spans a range from the play with fear in terror reporting to visions of democratic dialogue and the basic values of our society, human rights.

Cinema Next - Young Cinema from Austria sees itself as an initiative for young Austrian filmmakers.
A further education initiative for professional filmmakers in Austria. Concrete needs from professional practice are transferred with partners into targeted offers, so that workshops, trainings and coachings can take place.
EU XXL Film, Art & Culture
EU XXL is an independent initiative in the interest of European creatives. The initiative defines itself as a forum for the promotion, communication and dissemination of European film. Its projects include EU XXL - Die Reihe - Wanderkino im 21. Jahrhundert, EU XXL Film - Schnittstelle und EU XXL Film Jour Fixes.
FC Gloria - Women* Networking Film has been campaigning for gender justice in the Austrian film industry since 2010. Their vision: A (film) world of equal treatment, diversity, fair distribution of resources, appreciation and respect.

The Filmgalerie Achteinhalb is a non-profit association and one of the last video stores in Vienna!
Gewächshaus is a network of and for BPOC filmmakers in German-speaking countries. The goal is to promote diversity both in front of and behind the camera in order to bring their stories into the mainstream.
The cinema abonnement has started! With the nonstop Kinoabo, you can go to all regular movie screenings at participating cinemas for an unlimited monthly fee.
The school supports aspiring filmmakers and offers exchange and instruction with national and international film artists.
The contact and advice center against discrimination and unequal treatment, abuse of power, sexual assault and violations in (film and television) labor law was set up by the umbrella organization of filmmakers for all filmmakers. Declared goals are documentation, counseling and change.
